Third Cliff Bakery Trike Season: May-Sept '16

on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway

Trike is off-road for the winter and will return in Spring 2017

 

third-cliff-bakery-t750x550.jpgLast summer, the Third Cliff Trike served breakfast and treats several days each week on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway and at events thoughout the city. The trike, affectionately dubbed Rosie, brings a cafe experience to the street, without the bulk of a full-sized food truck. Built by owner, Meg, and her dad, Paul, it weighs approximately 450lbs when fully loaded and is a real beast to ride uphill.

Launching a trike was borne from the desire to be on the street and engaging with customers, while maintaining as lean a footprint as possible. It's a flexible model with different opportunities for learning, adapting and collaborating than a brick and mortar or traditional food truck.

At the forefront of flexible features is that the trike can be operated anywhere within the constraints of the rider's physical fitness (a huge motivator not to have pizza & beer for dinner every single night). That typically means a 5-mile radius from CommonWealth Kitchen in Dorchester, with the average daily commute of 4.5 mi one-way.

The trike rolled through events like the 2016 Mobile Food Festival, 2016 Boston Local Food Festival, as well as SoWa Open Market.

The off-season is filling up with recipe development and design tweaks to make the 2017 mobile food season more effective by expanding the menu and hours of the trike.

Rosie the Trike is available May-October for private events in Boston, and Third Cliff breakfast and dessert items are available for catering and gifting year-round.

Due to it's heavy and slow nature, Rosie's operating radius is approximately 5 miles from our kitchen in Dorchester.
